The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will not be deterred from seeking to take over the state government in the 2027 governorship election, regardless of any financial inducement or political pressure. Speaking to journalists in Yenagoa, the NDC state chairman, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, urges Governor Douye Diri to focus on inclusive leadership and to prioritize Bayelsans’ welfare through sustainable development and economic growth. He warns against attempts by the state government to encourage divisions within the NDC by offering incentives to party aspirants. According to Ikuromo, resources should instead be directed to addressing infrastructure and governance issues in Bayelsa, including concerns about commissioned but non-functional gas turbines. He also addresses reports of internal discontent, stating that the party has put in place a comprehensive grievance redress mechanism under Senator Henry Seriake Dickson’s leadership. Ikuromo adds that the NDC’s National Executive Council will soon release candidate lists for various positions in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, and calls on party members and supporters to remain united ahead of the election.
