APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe says he is ashamed after Nigerian social media users attack First Lady Oluremi (Remi) Tinubu over comments that went viral. In the video, Tinubu encourages young Nigerians to embrace small and medium-scale businesses, including “petty trade” such as frying akara for commercial purposes, describing it as a manageable way to earn income. The remarks trigger widespread online anger, with many critics accusing the First Lady of minimizing the challenges faced by unemployed youths and of not addressing the government’s role in creating jobs.
In a response posted on his Facebook page, Igbokwe condemns what he describes as unfair backlash. He argues that Tinubu’s message is intended as honest guidance and encouragement, not an insult. He also criticizes what he calls “headless mobs” and the abuse he says accompanies the discussion online, while maintaining that the core message is aimed at helping youths take action.
