Deep Sky and Isometric announce that the first certified direct air capture (DAC) carbon removal credits in North America have been issued. The credits are linked to carbon removed through Deep Sky’s project in Alberta, Canada, and are certified by Isometric for use by Microsoft and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).
According to the companies, the carbon removal involves capturing carbon dioxide directly from the air and injecting the captured CO2 underground as part of the project’s storage process. One report notes that Deep Sky completes its first injection, totaling about 14 tons of carbon, in May, marking an early milestone in bringing DAC storage operations online.
While the companies describe this as a first for the region and highlight the certification of the credits by Isometric, the disclosures focus primarily on project status, certification, and the initial buyers. The announcement is presented as part of broader efforts by corporate customers to procure verified carbon removal for emissions management.
All reporting frames the development around the issuance and certification of DAC removal credits tied to the Alberta operations and the initial credit purchases by Microsoft and RBC.
