US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor says the proposed US–India trade agreement is in its final steps, with only a small share of issues still outstanding. Speaking at the IX US–India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit in Washington, Gor characterizes negotiations as “in the last 1 per cent” or “last 1-2%,” adding that most parts of the deal are already complete. He expresses confidence that the agreement, which has been discussed for nearly 18 months, will soon be concluded.
Gor links progress on the trade talks to broader bilateral momentum and says the deal would benefit both countries by improving predictability for businesses operating across the two markets. He also argues that the pace of negotiations with India has been relatively fast compared with other trade processes, citing a much longer timeline for a European trade agreement.
Across the reports, the central point is that the negotiations have advanced to the closing phase, with remaining items being negotiated between the two sides before the deal can be finalized.
