NDC chieftain Buba Galadima calls on Nigeria’s National Judicial Council (NJC) to identify and prosecute corrupt elements within the judiciary, saying those found culpable should be jailed as a deterrent. Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show,” Galadima made the remarks while reacting to a recent Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State, that attempts to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He argues that the judiciary must “weed out” wrongdoing and that the council should not allow certain judges to go unpunished. Galadima also says the judiciary needs “soul-searching” to prevent a few individuals from damaging its reputation. Regarding the Lokoja ruling, he says the NDC is approaching the matter calmly and is confident it will prevail on appeal, adding that he does not believe the judgment will hold up over time. Across the reports, Galadima’s central message is that judicial accountability should be strengthened through prosecution and punishment.
