American Express is rolling out a new way for eligible U.S. cardholders to use Membership Rewards points when paying with Apple Pay. Multiple outlets report that card members can apply points directly during Apple Pay checkout for eligible online purchases and in-app transactions on iPhone and iPad. The “Use Rewards” option appears as part of the Apple Pay secure payment flow after the customer selects an eligible American Express card (including cards such as Platinum and Gold, along with others).

According to the reports, users can choose to redeem points to cover all or part of a purchase amount without leaving checkout or opening a separate American Express app or website. One outlet also specifies a redemption value in the U.S., stating that every 10,000 points redeemed through Apple Pay is worth a $70 statement credit. Coverage also indicates the feature does not extend to in-store Apple Pay transactions. Several sources tie the capability to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 or later for the Apple Pay experience in apps and on the web, depending on the device and checkout flow. The availability is limited to eligible American Express Membership Rewards cards and regions mentioned by the outlets.
