Guyana and Barbados launch a new cross-border travel arrangement that allows eligible citizens to travel between the two countries using their national digital identification (e-ID) cards rather than passports. Both governments present the initiative as a regional milestone for CARICOM integration and as part of broader digital transformation efforts.

The system is officially launched at Eugene F. Correia International Airport in Ogle, Guyana, where the countries announce that the e-ID cards function as travel documents for permitted movements between the two states. Barbados and Guyana describe the cards as compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, aligning the e-ID documents with international aviation requirements.

Under the arrangement, the focus is on enabling passport-free travel for those who meet the program’s eligibility criteria, using their electronically issued national ID cards to support identity verification at travel points. The outlets characterize the launch as the first instance of passport-free CARICOM travel using e-ID cards by the two countries.
