Uttar Pradesh introduces a 20% electricity tariff rebate during “Solar Hours” to encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption and greater use of solar power. The rebate applies to public EV charging infrastructure and is set for 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, when solar generation is expected to be higher. Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma announced the measure during a press conference, framing it as a way to make EV charging cheaper while using more affordable daytime solar electricity.

The announcement comes alongside the state’s broader claims about electricity availability and tariff stability. Sources say Uttar Pradesh does not increase electricity tariffs for consumers for a seventh consecutive year, with rates for all categories retained at existing levels. The state also highlights improvements in power supply reliability and generation capacity, including higher plant efficiency for older thermal units and new solar capacity development. Overall, the rebate is presented as a targeted policy step linking EV infrastructure incentives with the state’s daytime solar power availability.
