The May announcement had directed work from home for two days for government offices, following an energy-conservation push by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gupta now approves withdrawal of work from home specifically on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The same decision also includes ending the staggered office hours she had previously mandated for government offices. The government’s stated rationale is the improved geopolitical context, which it says reduces the need for the earlier measures aimed at conserving energy and managing operations. Both outlets report that the order is limited to the specified days and is part of a broader easing of office attendance rules.
