Two children of Senator Baba Tela, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, die in a fatal road accident, according to reports from multiple outlets. The siblings, identified as Mustapha and Ummi, reportedly die after the vehicle carrying them is involved in a crash along the Bauchi–Azare highway. The accident occurs while they are returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area. The reports state that the children die on the spot due to the severity of the impact, and their bodies are later taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirm their deaths. Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed expresses condolences to Tela and his family. In a statement attributed to the governor’s media adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed describes the incident as heartbreaking and prays for the children’s forgiveness and eternal rest. The governor also asks Allah to grant the family strength and patience. A funeral prayer is scheduled to be held at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Sunday, 5 July 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
