Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reports that senior military leadership commemorates Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed on the 27th anniversary of his martyrdom. ISPR says the tribute is paid to Khan for what it describes as his courage, devotion, and supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil conflict against Indian forces in the Kargil region. The statement says Khan was killed on July 5, 1999, while fighting in snow-capped mountains, and that he displayed gallantry and leadership while defending Pakistan. It also characterizes his sacrifice as a lasting source of inspiration for Pakistanis and as a “timeless beacon” of courage, patriotism, and commitment to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Separately, local commemorations are reported in Swabi, where people visit Khan’s tomb in Karnal Sher Khan village and pray. A Pakistan Army ceremony is held at the mausoleum, with a senior Frontier Corps Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North official named as a special guest, who lays a floral wreath. The reports also note Khan’s service career, including that he later joined the Pakistan Army after starting in the Pakistan Air Force, and that he fought at high altitude in the Gultary sector along the Line of Control.
