A landslide in the Karjat–Lonavala ghat section, triggered by heavy rainfall, disrupts train services on the Mumbai–Pune rail corridor. Multiple sources report that the incident affects rail traffic in the ghat area on the route linking Karjat and Lonavala, where landslides occur during intense monsoon conditions. The Railways move to restore service, with the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw overseeing restoration and Western and Central Railways coordinating on the response.
As a result of the disruption, several trains are cancelled and others are diverted. One report states that 16 trains are cancelled and nine long-distance services are diverted, while passengers are advised to check updated train status because restoration work continues.
In parallel with the rail incident, NDTV also reports broader weather impacts across Maharashtra, including widespread flooding, school closures, and a separate fatal building collapse in Mumbai. The rail disruption remains ongoing as teams carry out clearance and repairs in the affected ghat section.
