Heavy monsoon rainfall in Pune district triggers landslides that disrupt both road and rail links between Pune and Mumbai and lead to a rescue operation near Lohagad Fort. In Patan village in Maval tehsil, police say a landslide in the early hours of Monday buries a house under debris. Officials suspect members of a family were inside at the time and a search-and-rescue operation is underway with teams including the NDRF, police and fire brigade working under challenging conditions caused by ongoing rain, unstable terrain and limited access.

Road travel is also affected. The Mumbai–Pune Expressway sees closures linked to landslide damage and waterlogging, and the Old Highway remains shut in multiple stretches. MSRTC suspends all Pune–Mumbai ST bus services until further orders; four buses that had departed Pune are stranded near Urse toll plaza and are turned back to Pune. Officials advise passengers not to plan travel until the route is cleared.

Rail services between Pune and Mumbai are severely disrupted after landslides in the Bhor Ghat and Monkey Hill/Thakurwadi–Monkey Hill sections. Central Railway cancels, diverts, short-terminates, short-originates and reschedules trains, while restoration work continues and passengers are told to check live updates and use station helplines.
