Heavy monsoon rainfall and waterlogging disrupt Mumbai’s suburban rail operations on the Western Railway network, particularly on the Vasai Road–Virar corridor. Western Railway suspends or runs services on a limited basis after water accumulates on tracks near Nallasopara and Virar, with officials citing submerged sections and operating at restricted speed when needed. Services resume in the early hours of Tuesday, and the first Churchgate-bound train departs from Virar at 3.57 am, but the network continues to operate with delays. Western Railway updates say suburban trains on the Churchgate–Dahanu Road stretch run 10–15 minutes late, while on another update trains between Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar run about 25–30 minutes behind schedule due to ongoing waterlogging and “skeletal” operations.

Authorities advise passengers to plan journeys accordingly and check official announcements, while Western Railway says passenger safety is the top priority. The wider impact of the monsoon extends beyond the Western Railway, with Monday’s disruptions also involving landslides, overhead equipment problems and tree falls across other routes. Separately, railway officials point to long-standing drainage constraints and local geography as contributing factors and order a survey to examine raising track levels to reduce recurring flooding.
