Canadian police say investigators have found no evidence linking Indian government officials to the 2023 killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, a senior Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) official says. The comments come after earlier allegations by then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had strained ties between the two countries.

The RCMP Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland discusses the status of the investigation, stating that the probe does not substantiate claims of involvement by Indian officials. Her remarks also coincide with developments in the United States, where authorities have charged jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his associate Satinderjeet Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, with ordering Nijjar’s assassination.

Separate from the Nijjar-specific findings, Canadian, US and European law enforcement agencies conduct what they describe as a coordinated operation known as “Operation Hardball.” Under this effort, 24 people are arrested over alleged links to three organised crime groups, including the Bishnoi gang. The charges referenced in reporting include alleged orchestration of Nijjar’s murder as well as other cross-border organised crime activities.
