Multiple local governments in Cebu suspend classes on Thursday after volcanic ash from Mt. Kanlaon’s early-morning eruption reaches parts of Metro Cebu and western Cebu. Reports say Phivolcs records the eruption beginning at about 5:51 a.m. and ending around 7:36 a.m., producing an ash plume carried by prevailing winds. Cebu Provincial Government officials confirm ashfall in at least Toledo City, Pinamungajan, and Aloguinsan, with additional areas later reporting ashfall including Balamban, Minglanilla, and Cebu City. In response, several Cebu LGUs halt classes at all levels in public and private schools. Named affected areas include Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, as well as Minglanilla, Pinamungajan, Aloguinsan, Asturias, Consolacion, and Cordova. Toledo City suspends classes and also suspends local government work for the day. Cebu City’s disaster office also urges residents to follow safety guidance during ashfall as monitoring continues and authorities assess the spread of ash across western and central Cebu.
