President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commends Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for remodeling the Abuja City Gate, describing the upgrade as a symbol of national renewal, unity, and progress. Tinubu, represented at the Thursday commissioning ceremony by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, links the event to broader milestones: the third anniversary of his administration and the 50th anniversary of the FCT. He says the City Gate is one of Nigeria’s most recognizable monuments and serves as a first impression for visitors to the capital. Tinubu highlights the gate’s design elements, including a multi-coloured fountain intended to represent the 36 states and the FCT, and portrays the project as reflecting Nigeria’s diversity and shared aspirations.
Wike is reported to have said the remodeling project was initiated following the First Lady’s insistence that the entrance to the capital match its stature. He also references persistent rainfall challenges but notes that the work proceeds on schedule. The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, adds that the remodeled gate reflects the Renewed Hope agenda and credits Tinubu and Wike for restoring Abuja’s appearance. The upgraded structure, originally built in 1991, includes enhanced lighting, landscaping, and improved facilities.
