The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte enters its next phase as the prosecution prepares to present an additional witness. Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, who is part of the prosecution team, says the next witness will strengthen the testimonies and evidence related to alleged grave threats made by Duterte. De Lima made the statement after the trial’s first week concluded. According to De Lima, the prosecution’s second witness is expected to be National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc. She noted that Lotoc’s testimony follows that of NBI Senior Agent John Mark Calilung, who was presented during the first round of hearings. De Lima indicated that the upcoming testimony will add to the prosecution’s overall case but did not provide new details about the content of Lotoc’s expected statements. The reports also frame the additional witness as part of the prosecution’s efforts to further support its claims during the impeachment proceedings.
