Iran warns it will no longer consider itself bound by a US-Iran deal intended to end the war if Washington continues to violate its obligations, Iranian state television reports. Tehran’s UN ambassador says the warning is tied to the “Islamabad Understanding” reached with Pakistani mediation. According to the statement aired by IRIB, Iran says that if the United States continues violating its commitments under the understanding, Iran will not regard itself as bound by its own commitments.
The warning comes amid renewed tensions after an April ceasefire. Sources describe significant exchanges of fire in recent days, with attention on the Strait of Hormuz, which has threatened talks laid out in the agreement aimed at reaching a more permanent resolution. The US response includes declaring the ceasefire over while saying dialogue with Iran will continue.
Iranian officials also argue the United States has violated its obligations by launching and continuing large-scale military attacks against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while saying Iran remains committed to implementation of the memorandum if the US fully complies.
