Jamia Millia Islamia amends its examination rules to allow eligible final-year (and final-semester, under the annual system) students who have backlog papers to appear directly for compartment examinations immediately after their final examinations. The university says the change is intended to reduce delays in graduation caused by pending backlog subjects and the timing of regular examination cycles. The amendment is approved by the university’s Executive Council and is made through revisions to Ordinance-15. Under the updated provisions, compartment examinations cover backlog papers from any previous semester or year, with dates to be notified separately by the Office of the Controller of Examinations.
The revised facility is limited to students enrolled in regular courses at Jamia Millia Islamia. Students in distance education programmes are not eligible. The amendment also includes related clarification on compartment examinations for programmes under different examination structures, indicating that compartment exams are generally not conducted for “carry-over system” courses, while final-year/final-semester students can still appear for backlog papers.
In addition, Jamia’s Executive Council approves changes to re-evaluation-related provisions, giving final-year students the option to appear in compartment examinations rather than applying for re-evaluation of their answer scripts, while other students continue to seek re-evaluation within the existing 15-day window.
