Philippine authorities report a series of earthquakes affecting the area around Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental. Phivolcs records show a magnitude 6.5 quake struck southwest of Balut Island in the late evening hours of Tuesday, and the agency also reports a minor sea level disturbance following that event. Later, Phivolcs logs additional tremors tied to earlier large earthquakes in the region. On Saturday morning, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurs at 10:23 a.m., located southwest of Balut Island with a depth of about 15 kilometers, which Phivolcs characterizes as an aftershock. The same day, Phivolcs also reports a magnitude 5.5 earthquake early at 12:12 a.m., centered about 10 kilometers southwest of Balut Island and at a depth of about 17 kilometers. Separately, Phivolcs reports a magnitude 5.0 earthquake offshore near Balut Island early Tuesday morning, and another magnitude 5.5 event offshore early Saturday morning. Across the reports, Phivolcs links these smaller quakes to aftershock activity from prior magnitude 7.8 and magnitude 6.5 earthquakes off Sarangani and Balut Island, respectively.
