The Supreme Court dismisses a petition challenging Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for construction of two additional floors at actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Mumbai residence, “Mannat.” Multiple outlets report that the court declines to interfere with an earlier order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which had rejected the challenge on procedural and legal grounds.

The petition was filed by activist Santosh Daundkar, who questioned the CRZ approval granted for the actor’s sea-facing home in Bandra and alleged errors by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority in granting clearance for renovations. According to reports, the bench also commented that residents of a residential house can seek additional floors and that neighbours or others do not have grounds to intervene when the law is broadly followed.

The Supreme Court’s refusal to entertain the challenge effectively clears the way for Mannat’s expansion plans that are linked to the CRZ clearance. Outlets also note the bench’s approach to why the case should not be treated differently due to the involvement of a prominent film star.
