A large wildfire burning at Dunwich Heath near Leiston, on the Suffolk coast, is reported to be “stabilising” after more than 24 hours. Fire crews say the blaze, which has spread across about 150 hectares, has been tackled by more than 100 firefighters since Wednesday evening. Authorities have evacuated around 50 people from homes in the area and from a nearby holiday park. Some evacuees are being moved to Westleton, where the village hall has been used as a rest centre.
