The Gauteng Department of Health says it will run an HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccination Campaign at participating independent primary schools. The campaign is scheduled to take place from 3 August to 9 October. The department urges parents and guardians of eligible learners to return signed consent forms to enable their children to receive the HPV vaccine.
The department frames the vaccination as part of efforts to protect learners against diseases linked to HPV, including cervical cancer. It says the vaccination will be delivered at schools that are part of the programme, rather than through separate community sites.
