The Supreme Court asks JioStar to approach the Delhi High Court to resolve a dispute involving Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) tariff orders and related regulations. According to reports, the case concerns how TRAI’s tariff framework applies to pricing and discount structures within the cable and DTH distribution ecosystem. JioStar challenges aspects of the regulatory regime, arguing that TRAI’s tariff orders and pricing standards lead to unfair or inappropriate outcomes.
In particular, JioStar contends that the framework effectively equates commercial and residential subscribers, which it says results in pricing that does not reflect differences between subscriber categories. The Supreme Court hearing also notes that the challenge includes issues tied to tariff orders, maximum retail price (MRP) caps, and discount-related provisions that govern distribution arrangements for cable and DTH services.
Rather than deciding the merits at this stage, the Supreme Court directs the matter to be taken up before the Delhi High Court within the TRAI tariff framework dispute. The reports indicate that the court is hearing multiple pleas related to the scope and application of TRAI’s regulatory measures.
