Rabiu Kwankwaso, a vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says he is not worried about vice-presidents being labelled “spare tyres” by their principals. In interviews reported by Nigerian outlets, he argues that the role and influence of a vice-president depend largely on the type of principal with whom they serve.
Kwankwaso also points to his prior experience in government as preparation for leadership within a structured executive system. He references past roles including deputy speaker, minister, and governor to support his view that working as part of a leadership team is not determined by the label attached to the office.
