Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose criticises Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke after allegations that 29 of his supporters were killed during the state governorship election. Fayose says Adeleke’s post-election engagement with ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders is inappropriate given the reported fatalities. He raises questions about the motives of supporters who backed Adeleke.
The controversy centres on the August 15 election, where Adeleke ran under the Accord Party and accused suspected APC-aligned thugs of attacking his supporters. APC officials deny the claims and instead allege that Adeleke’s camp was responsible for the deaths of more than 20 of its members. After the election, INEC declares Adeleke the winner. Several outlets report that Adeleke then meets APC stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu, which draws public backlash.
Fayose also discusses alleged election spending, claiming APC invested about ₦60 billion while the Accord Party spent about ₦40 billion, and argues that such money could have been used for public benefit rather than political contests.
