The Nigerian military says the United States withdrawal of about 200 troops from Nigeria is linked to the structure and timing of the mission. Director of Defence Information Major General Samaila Uba says the earlier U.S. deployment was tied to operational support and counterterrorism activities.

He adds that elements of the U.S.–Nigeria security partnership will continue, particularly intelligence cooperation, training, and information sharing. He also emphasizes that Nigerian security forces remain primarily responsible for protecting citizens and defending the country.
