The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says it will use consensus to decide its candidates for the 2027 general elections. Party founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam made the announcement, stating that the party will determine candidates through consensus rather than relying solely on other selection methods. NNPP also says it is pardoning members previously expelled from the party. In explaining its decision, the party argues that some primary processes in Nigeria have, in practice, excluded candidates it describes as “very credible,” preventing them from taking part in the general elections. NNPP says it wants to ensure that candidates considered capable of contesting for public office are not barred during internal party selection.
