The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has condemned what it calls police interference with a “Tinubu Must Go” rally in Kano. The party says Kano State police operatives barricade the venue—The Avenue Event Center—during the event and intimidated participants. It also alleges police arrested the venue’s owner.
In statements carried by Nigerian Eye and other outlets, ADC spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan argues the actions violate constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. The ADC characterizes the incident as unconstitutional and “shameful,” and says stopping a rally cannot address broader public grievances such as insecurity, banditry, and rising living costs.
Vanguard likewise reports that the ADC challenges the police response and highlights that the venue owner’s arrest is part of the party’s complaint. Across coverage, the common points are that the rally proceeded as an ADC-linked youth-led effort, that police disruption occurred at the event site in Kano, and that the ADC is urging the Inspector-General of Police and the Kano State command to release the detained venue operator.
