IndiGo has signed a USD 328 million financing arrangement with Citi to acquire eight narrow-body aircraft built by Airbus. The financing is structured to cover six Airbus A321s and two Airbus A320s, according to the companies. The deal is executed through IndiGo’s IFSC entity, InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services, based in GIFT IFSC.
Outlets describe the transaction as a first-of-its-kind aviation financing structure. Citi serves as sole mandated arranger, ECA coordinator and sole lender, while Credendo provides credit insurance backing. The arrangement is described as the first aviation financing deal globally insured by Credendo and the first ECA-backed aircraft financing using the GIFT IFSC structure.
Citi and its partners frame the transaction as expanding access to long-term international funding for IndiGo’s fleet growth. The reporting also notes that IndiGo is building an Airbus-focused fleet, including its earlier announcements of large narrow-body aircraft commitments and additional aircraft types. The different outlets largely align on deal size, aircraft numbers and the roles of Citi, Credendo and GIFT IFSC.
