Framework Computer is updating its Framework Laptop 12 with an Intel Core 3 “Wildcat Lake” system-on-chip. The Laptop 12 is a convertible 2-in-1 designed to be Linux-friendly and upgradeable through Framework’s modular approach, following the company’s broader Laptop 13 and 16 platform.

Earlier versions of the Laptop 12 launched with an Intel Raptor Lake U SoC, which some reviewers and early coverage viewed as less compelling given the timing and positioning of the device. With the 2026 upgrade, outlets frame the change around improved performance and better power efficiency, positioning the updated model as more capable than the previous configuration.

Engadget also characterizes the Laptop 12’s original intent as a “Chromebook killer,” and focuses on whether the new Core Series 3 chip addresses a key limitation seen in the earlier hardware. Together, the reports indicate the primary difference is the processor upgrade, with the broader design and upgrade philosophy largely carried forward.
