Paul McCartney says he has one main concern about Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics: how he will be portrayed on screen, specifically his height. Speaking with Amy Poehler on her podcast “Good Hang,” McCartney describes having texted Mendes “don’t do this” after seeing a still from filming and feeling that the actor playing him, Paul Mescal, appears smaller than the actor playing John Lennon.
Across reports, McCartney explains that he and the other Beatles were “all the same height” in photos, and he objects to being depicted as shorter. He compares Mescal’s look to Lennon’s portrayal by Harris Dickinson and notes a visible mismatch in a scene filmed at the Abbey Road crossing. McCartney also jokes that there are practical limits to adjusting appearance, given the iconic bare-foot imagery.
The outlets also confirm the project’s scale and timeline: Mendes is directing four separate films focused on each Beatle, designed to be released simultaneously in 2028. The cast is reported as Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, with producers discussing a cinema rollout spread across the same period.
