Ivanti Connect Secure, a remote access VPN appliance, is affected by a chain of zero-day vulnerabilities that can be exploited for unauthenticated remote code execution with elevated privileges, including root access. SecurityWeek reports that the issue can give attackers root on fully patched systems, while other reporting focuses on how the chain works when multiple flaws are combined.

Bleeping Computer says Ivanti warns customers that the zero-day is actively exploited in attacks and urges immediate patching. The Hacker News, citing security firm Volexity, reports that an attacker chained three Ivanti Connect Secure zero-days to execute commands as root without logging in. Ivanti has released fixes for two of the flaws, while a fix for the third is still pending, according to Volexity.

Across outlets, the key points are that the vulnerabilities affect the same VPN product, exploitation does not require authentication, and defenders are split between “patch now” guidance for available fixes and uncertainty about timing for remaining remediation.
