Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says he is “happy” after President Bola Tinubu confers national honours on him and other pro-democracy activists. Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, Director expresses gratitude to Tinubu and says the President should be commended for correcting what he describes as “anomalies.” He refers to events around 1999, when he says pro-democracy activists helped ensure former President Olusegun Obasanjo did not die in jail. Director also says Tinubu, after becoming president, did not adequately recognize activists and the media, but he argues that honoring them now is a positive step. He adds that he does not advocate “vindictiveness” and says he will not cut social relationships with people because he is in the opposition. The reports agree that Director’s comments are a response to the national honours conferred on him and fellow pro-democracy figures.
