The Nigerian Army says troops have rescued five people who were kidnapped and later abandoned by terrorists during military operations in Kogi State. Multiple outlets report that the rescues happen as the Army intensifies pressure on criminal camps and forest hideouts across the state, with the terrorists reportedly fleeing during the offensive.
According to statements cited by the media, the operation involves the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army under the 2 Division. The victims are said to have been intercepted on a blocking mission in or near Adankolo Forest along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route. Media accounts describe that the terrorists abandon the victims while escaping, after which the troops take the victims into custody and evacuate them to a secure location.
The reports add that the rescued individuals receive medical attention and are later debriefed to gather information that could help locate remaining suspects. The Army also says efforts are underway to reunite the victims with their families after medical and administrative processes are completed.
