The United States lifts Iran-related sanctions for 60 days beginning Monday as the two sides move forward with talks following an interim, nascent peace framework. U.S. President Donald Trump says he will “do what I have to do” if Iran does not adhere to its commitments under the emerging agreement. U.S. Vice President JD Vance says the initial discussions in Switzerland have laid a “good foundation” for a final peace deal.

Reporting on the talks says the roadmap being built aims at reaching a permanent agreement within 60 days. Mediators Pakistan and Qatar are described as playing a role in the process. The talks also include steps focused on reducing regional tensions: agreement on a mechanism intended to help end fighting in Lebanon involving U.S. ally Israel and Iran-aligned Hezbollah, and the opening of a communications line intended to support safe passage for commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, however, denies that it has begun discussions related to its nuclear program, even as the talks proceed toward broader settlement terms.
