Apple is contesting India’s antitrust investigation into its iOS App Store practices, according to reports from multiple outlets. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) opened the case in 2021 after receiving complaints about Apple’s App Store fees. In 2024, the CCI found Apple to have engaged in abusive conduct related to its iOS operating system and alleged that Apple improperly required app developers to use Apple’s own payment system.
Ahead of a further closed-door hearing with senior CCI officials, Apple says its proceedings were based on “copy-pasting” rivals’ allegations rather than an independent assessment. Apple’s submission, as reported, argues that investigators “blindly replicated” a consumer spending graphic drawn from an EU rule. It also includes comparative materials that juxtapose elements of the CCI’s findings with filings from other parties involved in the case, including rival Indian payment firms.
The dispute centers on whether Apple’s submission addresses errors in the CCI’s process and conclusions or whether the regulator’s antitrust findings remain grounded in its own investigation.
