Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif travels to Iran and Turkiye from July 3 to July 5, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office and reported by Pakistani outlets. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi says Sharif goes first to Iran to attend condolence ceremonies and the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an Iranian supreme leader who died after an assassination attributed to US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Andrabi also says Sharif is joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other cabinet members and senior officials.

After the Iran events, Sharif travels to Istanbul, Turkiye, at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Outlets report that Sharif is scheduled to hold discussions with Erdogan on bilateral relations, with an emphasis on boosting trade and investment cooperation, and to exchange views on regional peace and security.

During his stay in Istanbul, Sharif is also expected to address a Pakistan-hosted business conference focused on attracting Turkish investment in priority sectors including special economic zones, energy, information technology, and privatisation. Additional reporting notes Pakistan and Turkiye recently sign MoUs related to power-sector institutional collaboration and technical cooperation.
