Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) issues a clarification after a social media message claims the Morbe dam has overflowed. The civic body says the viral post is misleading and urges residents not to believe unverified forwards. According to NMMC’s notification released on July 6, 2026, the reservoir/dam under its ownership is not overflowing and is currently about 42.48% full of its storage capacity. NMMC also notes that the Morbe dam is located at Morbe village in Khalapur taluka of Raigad district and is linked to water supply for Navi Mumbai. The clarification comes amid heavy rains in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which can raise water levels and fuel rumours.
NMMC further explains that the confusion arises because the viral message refers to a different project— the Morbe Minor Irrigation Project. NMMC says that irrigation project is managed by the Water Resources Department in Panvel taluka, Raigad district, and that it experienced overflow on July 5, 2026. The civic body emphasizes that the irrigation scheme and the NMMC-owned dam are separate projects handled by different authorities, and it points residents to official updates and helplines for verified information.
