Microsoft is testing a new Windows 11 recovery option called “Cloud Rebuild,” which is designed to restore a PC using resources from the cloud. Multiple reports say the feature is being evaluated in Windows 11 Insider Preview builds distributed through the Experimental channel. One outlet notes that the builds announced for July 6, 2026 include the testing of Cloud Rebuild, and that the recovery approach is intended to work in a way that includes drivers as part of the rebuild process.
In addition to the Cloud Rebuild testing, one report also references Microsoft’s Windows 11 “point-in-time restore” capability reaching general availability, positioning the new cloud-based recovery as a separate enhancement. Overall, sources describe Cloud Rebuild as an upcoming recovery workflow that will allow users to rebuild or recover their Windows 11 environment from the cloud rather than relying solely on local recovery media.
Microsoft has not been described in the reports as giving a final rollout date beyond the Insider testing period.
