Multiple outlets, citing Korean publication The Elec and display-industry sources, report that Apple has effectively halted development of a key display component for a cheaper, lighter future version of its Vision Pro headset. The Elec says Apple supplier Samsung Display is preparing to end an internal panel project known in the industry as “G-VR.” The report states Samsung will formally terminate the project by September, after the effort entered a winding-up phase earlier in the year.

G-VR is described as a glass-substrate micro-OLED intended as a lower-cost alternative to the silicon-based OLEDoS used in the current Vision Pro. The project was reportedly targeting roughly 1,600–1,700 pixels per inch, compared with Vision Pro’s 3,386 PPI, and mass production had once been expected sometime after 2028.

The reports also connect the display decision to shifting priorities at Apple, including increased focus on smart glasses and reduced momentum for the cheaper headset plan. Apple continues to develop mixed-reality display technology through Samsung, while its rumored budget headset and any successor Vision Pro-style device are described as delayed or uncertain. Separately, Apple recently raised Vision Pro pricing in October 2025.
