Levi Bellfield is set to have a new DNA sample taken as part of investigations connected to the 1996 murders of Lin Russell, 45, and her daughter Megan Russell, aged six. The testing is being carried out by miscarriage of justice investigators associated with the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), according to reports. The review also relates to whether Michael Stone, who was convicted in 1998, may have been wrongly convicted in connection with the deaths of Lin and Megan Russell and an attack on Megan’s sister Josie, then nine years old, who survived.

Bellfield has claimed responsibility for attacking Lin and Megan Russell, as well as for the attempted murder of Josie. Investigators plan to take Bellfield’s DNA and compare it in an effort to inform the ongoing review of evidence connected to Stone’s conviction. Stone has continued to protest his innocence since his conviction.
