Shane van Gisbergen of Trackhouse Racing wins at Sonoma Raceway, marking his second win of the season and eighth NASCAR Cup Series win overall on road and street courses. The victory comes as he becomes the winningest active driver in NASCAR’s premier series on road and street layouts, surpassing other leading active challengers in cumulative road-course performance. The win also breaks a tie with Chase Elliott for the most road-course victories among active drivers. Jeff Gordon holds the all-time NASCAR premier-series road-course record with nine victories, while Tony Stewart and van Gisbergen are listed tied near the top of the all-time active standings for road-course wins.
At Sonoma, van Gisbergen starts sixth in his No. 97 Chevrolet and works through the field to take control late in the race. He leads 74 of the final 83 laps on the 1.99-mile road course north of San Francisco, securing back-to-back victories at the track.
